Styrofoam is quite a good material for carving with. it can be carved using a hot wire or heated tool, sanded to shape, cut to shape with a band saw or cut with a knife.
This skull was cut out of a styrofoam block, coated in jesmonite, then painted with a pigmented acrylic resin. The skull was used for an exterior shop sign The 3D Skull was made from styrofoam, it was 600mm high, 100mm thick, coated with a pigmented acrylic resin, with red matt eyes and white painted face . The skull was lightweight because it was made of styrofoam It was coated in casting resin to make it stronger. Care must be taken when handling. Once in position on the shop sign it will last for years.
Polystyrene works well as a material for carving and shaping.
Concrete effect letters made from styrofoam, coated with a fine grain coloured sandstone and then painted to the final concrete colour finish.

We have also supplied these letters for outside use on shop front signs because the paint and sandstone resin binders that we used are primarily designed for the construction industry.
To set up artwork for cutting on our polystyrene cutting machines we require vector artwork. Artwork needs to be saved as an eps file with all fonts converted to curves.
If the artwork is in the form of a jpeg we will need to digitize the logo to make a vector artwork of it before we can cut it.
We use Corel Draw to make our vector artwork, there is also free software available on the internet that can be used for producing vector artwork such as Inkscape.
Various sizes are available. 300mm high, 500mm high in Helvetica Bold. 600mm high and 1000mm high is available in Impact font.
Painted styrofoam shapes, profile cut using a hot wire cutter and painted with Dulux vinyl matt emulsion in two layers using either a roller or brush application.
Styofoam profiles supplied for wall displays, all custom cut to order. Maximum size available as one piece 600mm, thickness of styrofoam is variable depending on customers requirements from 5mm to 150mm thick. Paint is matched to pantone or RAL colours.
Styrofoam profiles may also be supplied natural finish for customers to paint to their own finish.
Styofoam may also be used for outside use if they are painted with adequate layers of Dulux masonry paint.
Large 3D letters are available custom cut to order 1900mm high by 200mm thick, supplied in a natural white finish polystyrene. These big standing letters are ideal for props for events and displays.

Letters can be supplied with a natural white finish, painted finish or glitter finish.
